Restaurant bewertenI originally thought it was a downside that there was only one main dish option, but I don't even mind because the pizza was so incredible. I would choose it every time without hesitation. The vegetarian pasta seemed vegan, but I suspect it contains egg since it was labeled as vegetarian. I will inquire about it next time. There is also a vegan kale appetizer on the menu, as well as other dishes that could be made vegan upon request.
The review mentions vegan options, but there is actually only one vegan option available. However, it is a good one - a pesto pizza with mushrooms.
I had high expectations based on the reviews, especially for the pizza, so I decided to skip the restaurants on Newport Avenue and try this place on Grove Street. I ordered a crispy potato and a vegan pizza. Unfortunately, the vegan pizza had no taste at all - I recommend sticking to the Margherita pizza. The crispy potatoes were also overcooked. The atmosphere was pleasant and the location is up-and-coming, but finding parking can be tricky as some surrounding streets are not well-maintained. The service was good and the staff seemed friendly, but the server seemed indifferent and uninterested in customer feedback. I was surprised that they still charged me for the pizza after my feedback; most places would comp the dish. In total, my bill for a wine starter, pizza, and water came to $69 for one person, which I found to be a bit expensive for McKinley Square. I wish the pizza had lived up to the hype, but unfortunately it did not. I may give it another try in the future, but I'm not sure if I will return. Perhaps my expectations were just too high based on the reviews.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing because each dish has its own unique sauce, and knowing how they are made adds to the experience. The food is truly fantastic!
The food at this restaurant is just okay, with the pizza being overhyped. The service is welcoming but not very friendly. I would recommend sticking to Porta and Basile's if you are from Jersey City. However, it is clear that the restaurant has good intentions and is a positive addition to the neighborhood.
