Restaurant bewertenExcellent place to visit if you're after good quality fish and chips. There is nothing too flash about this shop, so I wasn't expecting anything great, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the blue cod with chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, with a nice crisp batter on the outside and melt in your mouth fish on the inside. Chips were very slightly undercooked, but they were still delicious. This place does get quite busy, but they serve customers really quickly. I would definitely come back here again. Very reasonably priced too.
Porky's Takeaways in Hokitika would seriously have to have some of the best fish and chips in NZ, maybe on the entire planet. The selection of fish is superb but the chips are out of this world, Chunky, crispy spud chips just like mother used to make, cooked in real-deal fat so there's no foul oil taste to worry about. So even if you are health conscious it's worth it every once in a while to let loose and Porky's is definitely the place to do it, I mean, aren't fish and chips just the perfect delivery vehicle for a good dose of salt ?? Service is friendly and efficient and you would have to be a negative whining whinging nitpicker to find fault here. The shop is clean and neat, super-well presented and they have the most amazing signs and menu boards, all done in the old fashioned style, clearly done by a sign writer who must be extremely talented, truly amazing and worth taking your camera. Enjoy.
Best meal and friendliest service we had on our two-week holiday road trip!
Great chips from this place, almost historic in just how good they were. However everything else is a bit Fawlty Towers. The queue goes out the door its so popular but its a combination of those waiting to collect or those waiting to order, with no-one knowing where to stand or if their order has been called. Lots of people were waiting only then realizing their order was already sitting there and ready to go. The owner appeared at one point with his mouth full and wiping the crumbs away, so at least he got his dinner at the busiest time of the night. Fish was dry and seemed double cooked , Oysters were undercooked with floury batter and were poor overall especially given the cost. Would definately return though for the chips and to expereince Basil, Sybil and the crew working their magic, just don't go in there if youre already famished as you will be waiting a while
Their chips are the best.<br/ <br/ They seem like that they have the certain way to fry it well.<br/ <br/ The saltiness and crispiness are perfect.<br/ <br/ I had their whitebait toast, too. The toast range is also recommended. Simple, but it's just right of butter inside.<br/ <br/ Though I didn't have fish, I can tell that must be good.
