During our holiday in Caernarfon, we decided to purchase some Welsh lamb to bring back home. After a quick search on Google, we discovered Wavell’s, which was conveniently located on our route and had received numerous awards. We purchased a leg of lamb, which was on the smaller side, indicating that it came from a genuine lamb. However, when we cooked and served it to friends two days later, we were disappointed. Unlike the tender and flavorful Welsh lamb we had enjoyed before, this lamb was not as tender and lacked flavor. Despite our careful storage and cooking techniques, the quality of the lamb was disappointing. This experience has left us questioning if Wavell’s is known for poor quality meat or if we were simply unlucky. Although we did enjoy the sausages we purchased, we do not need to travel to Wales for quality sausages. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Wavell’s for their lamb after this experience.
Bought several meat items from Wavells. Very nice pies and lovely pork sausages. Our only problem was took us ages to find as we took a wrong turn but good we found it in the end.
Having been brought up on a farm I am quite fussy about where I buy my meat and since moving to the area over 20 years ago hardly go anywhere else. There is a great selection of options to suit all tastes and a great deli. No matter what time of day I arrive (they're open from 6:30) there is almost always someone before and/or after me, what better recommendation.
We always get great quality produce from this place. Everything they offer, from pies to steak, is top-notch. The variety of meat is fantastic and the pre-made meals are delicious. We can't find a single fault, and the staff are really lovely. This is our go-to butcher when we're in Llanrug.
