Restaurant bewertenGreat place to eat, homestyle cooking at its best Went for breakfast and had the cowboy special. Wowzer. real Ham and thick cut bacon.
Best hot turkey sandwich. Best pie! Best cheesecake! Best food all around! Service is great too! Yum food!
Typical old style cafe setting, food is advertised home-cooked & is what you should expect, service is prompt, some days better than others, they need to step up their coffee as it is below par.
I believe the pictures shown above are for the second restaurant. This little bistro is right across from the Prairie Mall and it is at the outside edge of perhaps the seediest motel in Grande Prairie, the Prairie Haven Motel (I'll let other reviewers handle that issue). I have been travelling to this northern berg for over forty years and it is entirely possible this restaurant has always been there. I have for many years purchased their homemade sandwiches available at most of the late night service stations in the city. As a professional road warrior, I wanted to finally stop but the proximity to the motel made me drive past. But I ended up circling the block and showing a little more courage, pulled up in front and parked on the street (there is a lot of street parking available). Stepping in the front door, I knew this was going to work out well. This is a classic "truck stop" style diner. Guests came and went, many on a first name basis. Occasionally the waitress would stick her head out the door and yell at a trucker that their grub was up. How cool is that? I ordered the corn chowder and for lunch, a Coke and the cheese stuffed meat loaf with veggies. The soup was ultra thick with huge pieces of bacon. Yum! Coke is served in the can with a glass jammed with ice. No fountain service for the folks that frequent this little stop, just cans of pop with ice. I miss those days but now I know where I can relive my youth when I am in the north country. As for the cheese stuffed meat loaf, I think the name tells the whole story. I believe a law should be passed that every meat loaf from now on, have cheese baked into the centre. If I have one complaint it is that the meal was so sizeable that dessert was out of the question. But that didn't stop me staring at the remarkably large slices of pie staring back at me from the cooler as I paid my bill. Lunch for me, myself and I was just a tad over twenty bucks! If you are like me and the outside makes you drive past, hitch your bravery up and circle the block. You will know you are in the right place when you walk through the door and someone shouts at you, "Grab a seat I'll be right with ya!"
We have been here 4 times now, twice for breakfast, we enjoy the breakfast, however feel it is overpriced, the cowboy breakfast is very good, however for 2 people you walk out with a $40.00 bill for breakfast with coffee. the lunch buffet is pretty good. the service is average.
