Sammy's on the Marina - Glenelg

Great seafood, steaks and service. Friendly staff, great meal sizes. Battered King George whiting to die for!

Had my brother down from Queensland and ventured to Sammys for King George whiting. What a disappointment. Two micro pieces of fish, a few over cooked chips and a cold slaw like salad. $42 each. A real rip. My advice go somewhere else.

Good location at the end of the marina and warm inside. We walked in on a Sunday lunch and it was fairly busy. The food was reasonable, 6 oysters were fresh if much more expensive than at the Oyster Bar 30 meters away. King George Whiting was a decent size, and quite tasty. We were told we couldn’t change the chips but could leave them off which was disappointing. Seafood chowder was creamy and tasty and there was a reasonable serving of seafood though no fish. No Shaw and Smith and the waitress assertively suggested Geisen Marlborough was the ideal substitute so we went with it, though a local Sav Blanc would’ve been better. For the prices I would like not to have felt as rushed as we were and definitely would prefer if the waitress didn’t refer to us as love, sweetheart, movie, mate let alone all of those and probably more! So decent food at above average prices and a strange approach to waiting. Having been in Europe recently we probably got used to genuine waiting and not in and out in 30 minutes. Sammy’s has a wider menu but Oyster Bar on the Marina would be our choice for oysters, fish and chips and wine at much more reasonable price.

Was very unhappy that my booking was pushed forward to 1:30pm only to be shoved up the stairs at a hot and stuffy table with zero view. My mother in law had to struggle up the stairs and then placed at an awful table?? Not good at all! When your customers are nice enough to accomodate a time change for you because of your error, the least you could have done was sit us at a half decent table. Just disgusting, not the Sammy’s I remember.
