Restaurant bewertenWe enjoyed an incredible evening at the Yen restaurant in Taipei. This restaurant is located at the top of the W hotel. Upon exiting the elevator and entering the dining room, we were immediately hit with amazing skyline views of Taipei. The decor of the restaurant was very beautiful and modern yet refined. Our server immediately greeted us and explained their specialties on the menu. We opted for the roasted Peking duck, green beans, and crispy tofu. The Peking duck was the real star of the show. They prepare it at table-side and wrap it up with rice paper, green onions, and sauce for you to enjoy. The skin was incredibly crispy and the meat packed with flavor. The green beans and tofu were also excellent and seasoned impeccably. After we finished the duck, they took the left over meat and bones and made a delicious soup from it which was served at the end of our meal. It was savory and hearty and the perfect cherry on top for an amazing experience. Absolutely recommend Yen if you find yourself in Taipei.
Excellent restaurant. With a place like Yen, located on the 31st floor of the exclusive W Hotel, you never know if you're paying for the ambiance/view, or the actual food. Well, I'm here to tell you: the food is fantastic. Also, pro tip: sign up for the FREE Marriott Bonvoy membership thing and get 10% off your bill (as of January 2023). Props to Yen for having last minute dinner reservations available for my dad's birthday, and also a free bun dessert. Not only that, almost every dish we ordered was awesome. My favorite was the Shanghai vegetable rice in a hot stone pot...it was a new take on an old dish. The cod was also excellent, although it was priced accordingly. We went back for dim sum a few days later, and it was delicious as well (and less expensive than dinner). I'm so grateful I got to experience such great meals at Yen with my dad, and I'm looking forward to going again the next time I'm in Taiwan...hopefully with window seats.
Service was subpar considering for a five star hotel. The foods were served too quickly that lead it to being cold. I asked them to slow it down but rather than communicating to the kitchen, they just left the food at the serving table waiting for our next dishes. The Peking duck was ok. I've had better.
After visiting the Yen bar for libations several evenings and viewing the amazing kitchen with Peking ducks on display. I made reservations for dinner on my last night stay in Taipei. Located at The W Hotel on the 31st level, the restaurant interior and decor are chic. Be sure to order your duck in advance, due to they are special order and sell out nightly. Once checked in, I was seated at a table with a view of the beautiful city lights. The staff here were so accommodating the manager, who's from Vancouver Canada welcomed me and recommended entree's that paired perfectly with my pre ordered duck. The male carver arrived tableside and deboned the duck. Once completed a female server wrapped the duck inside pancakes and served it with condiments. The other entree's of garlic prawns and seasonal veggies arrived in time to be enjoyed as a trio. The duck was the some of the best I've eaten and the garlic prawns were incredible every bite was memorable. I was impressed that the portions perfect in size but still allowed us to savor the egg tarts and custard tarts that resembled mushrooms. So ecstatic I had the opportunity to dine here, this was definitely one the best meals in Taipei. I highly recommend Yen for a memorable dining experience.
Yen's is one swanky Chinese restaurant! The Las Vegas style decor of the W Taipei hotel lends itself to the ritzy Chinese restaurant on the 31st floor. If you want s seat by the window, we recommend making reservations. Any other table us just fine though. The vertical lines of the decor are interesting ropes running from floor to ceiling, a very tall ceiling, caged light fixtures and so on continue the vertical lines theme of the W. Service is attentive and first class. Expect warm hand towels at the beginning of the dining experience and tea service throughout your meal no teapot left at the table, the servers refill as needed throughout dinner. The teapot is warmed over s tea light candle at the servers' station to keep it hot though. Each entree is brought out one at a time, which is great for ensuring each is enjoyed when at it's perfect temperature. All of our entrees were delicious! For a part if 4 adults, including the 10% service charge, the total bill was $7000 NTD or about $228 US. Not bad, but none of us ordered any liquor. We definitely said yes to desserts and their mini egg tarts were delicious! The dining room is a bit cold take a seater ladies. Wouldn't mind going again if I wanted another elegant dining experience but with so many other options, we opted not to go back this week. Maybe again next time because the food, service, dining experience and value all get high marks from this reviewer.
