Restaurant bewertenA beautiful little corner of Frascati with amazing food. We went for lunch and had an incredible spread of Porchetta, Salami, Mortadella, Cheeses, San Marzano tomatoes, caponata and bread. Washed down with a local Frascati. Our host was fantastic, explained it all to us and because they had no red wine, even persuaded my husband to drink white!! Highly recommended. Make time to visit if you are in Frascati, you won’t be disappointed.
We came to Frascati from Rome just to come visit this Fraschetta after taking a tour through the town two years prior on a wine tour. In a true Fraschetta fashion, tables are put out and you can bring your own food while enjoying their wine. We happened to get hungry before they opened so we ate beforehand. We took a seat and ordered a liter of wine which was probably more than we needed and enjoyed people watching and listening to the men at the next table over playing guitar and singing. The wine is equally tasty and strong and stubborn us felt the need to finish all the wine we had ordered. Luckily there is a bakery across the way that sells pizza and sweet breads we to help soak up the alcohol. The man working as well as the regulars at the table over were very friendly and helpful. Nice refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of Rome.
As non Italian speaking, it was was an experience sitting down for lunch at this osteria. I confirmed we wanted typical food? when the hostess asked us and then diverse antipasti were appeared on our table together with white wine. Very simple but good. Then we asked for pasta and were recommended the home made fettuccine. The pasta was excellent, of course, but only served with a quite bland tomato sauce. At this point we were really full, couldn 't go for secondi or dulce. Instead we were served their home made cookies and more white wine really good! All in all very charming and genuine but do not expect fine dining.
This is an experience not just food and wine. It's living history. There are a couple of places in Frascati that run a similar business model but nothing compares to this. It only serves white wine and water. If you want to eat take your own food, the local butchers and bakers provide for the picnic. If you mention your purchases are for the cantina they come more appropriately cut and packaged. On entry through the very onprepossing doorway you are directed to a bench or table, paper is placed on it if you're carrying the obvious lunch shopping. You're offered wine and water. A 500ml carafe is 2.50€. You eat, you drink. The surroundings are akin to a rustic garage with a few tables and chairs. The clientele are locals, men, couples and families depending on the time of day. A true experience, love it or hate it. We went three times.
