Thursday 23rd August 2018. We (2 families, 8 people) came out of the Chateau de Fougeres at about 6.30pm and looked for somewhere nearby to have a crepe. We put our heads through the door and asked the owner if we could have a table. The restaurant was empty. He explained that he had reservations for later and so the answer was no. We looked at the empty room and asked if he could please fit us in? It was raining. He replied that he 'd let us in, but only if we promised we 'd get out before the reservations arrived. This seemed a little unwelcoming, but we agreed anyway. He passed us menus and the kids were drawn to nutella crepes and hot chocolates. The owner overheard us talking about this and protested telling us that he 'd opened the restaurant for us especially and if we weren 't going to order full meals then we would have to leave. We couldn 't believe he was being serious and asked if we were able to make our selection from the menus he had passed us based on which dishes we desired to order, as is the way with restaurants. He said no it was full meal only, we didn 't have the right to choose. So, calmly we had a little chat amongst ourselves and agreed that that was that and stood up to leave. As I removed my rainjacket from the back of the chair, two legs lifted up off the floor a couple of inches and landed with a clumsy clatter. The owner started shouting at us and telling us not to bang chairs and to demonstrate this, he banged a chair on the floor himself with agression. I don 't engage with bullies, so I turned my back on him and calmly walked out and said Goodbye as I left. The 7 in my group followed. The owner started shouting swearwords at the remainder of the group. 5 of the 8 were children under 10. As I reached the door I calmly said Tripadvisor and this enraged the owner and he started shouting even louder. His (presubalbly) wife came out from the kitchen and told him to calm down (this was clearly not the first time). My brother tried to calm him down (I was outside in the rain at this point) but he was determined to argue and continued to shout and swear. My 6 year old daughter was so scared she later told me she walked the long way round behind some tables to avoid the shouting man. My wife was shaking with fear for an hour afterwards. As we drove off, the man came and stood outside his restaurant and watched us depart. These are the facts of our bizarre expereince as tourists taking children to a tourist restaurant next to a tourist attraction in August. I am sorry that the owner was clearly in a bad place mentally perhaps business was bad but as my 6 year old daughter said to me If he doesn 't shout at his customers then his business will have more money. I hope business picks up for him.
We came all the way from St Malo on our way to Paris. It was only 13:00. There were only 3 tables in the garden and the rest of the tables were put aside. We asked if they could arrange one of the put aside tables for us we would wait for the crepes. The waiter was very impolite and said it was not possible. We were shocked by this attitude and left. Just as we were leaving guests on one of the 3 tables finished and left.So they do not wish to serve for more that 3 tables???
