Restaurant bewertenHave walked past this place a hundred times but tried it for the first time last night and it was fabulous! Stefan is an absolute delight and cooks the most gorgeous French food. The space is like a matchbox and what is created in here is just amazing! Fantastic atmosphere with lots of people coming and going...had a great feel to it. Our waiters were efficient, knowledgeable and service with a smile. Great wines both red and white. We had the stuffed pigs ears....amazing flavours served with a yummy sauce and potato gratin, also the steak with the most beautiful pate on top, the duck was cooked to perfection and served with a lovely salad and baked potatoes. We were lucky it was oyster Thursday, fresh oysters with red wine vinegar $1 each, cannot beat that! French onion soup served with grilled cheese toast was also delicious. Topped off with orange pancakes and profiteroles......yummo! We will definitely be back.....thanks for having us!
Ambience is the word that comes to mind! Stefan is great to chat with about food, wine, submarines, France, Footscray food scene and life in general. The bar is intimate, warm and inviting. I've had many great lunches and miners here with family and friends and look forward to many more.
Eventhough this place is facing the main road, it is almost lost in amongst the Vietnamese shops! Look out for a snail on the sign hanging outside!A small place (seats about 30) with a simple small menu and a one-man chef, the food is authentic and wonderful. Went on a Thursday, $1 oyster day! We gobbled down oysters with champagne, the steak tartare, duck confit and crème brulee. Unbelievably delicious! Good thing about this place is that they take bookings. Weekends are near impossible to get a table if you don't book early.I already know what I will order the next time I visit, escargot, fillet Rossignol and the charcuterie platter. Plus more oysters of course!
This is a fantastic little bar with great French food and wine. The staff were super welcoming and provided great service all night and as it was a Thursday it was $1 oyster night and they were delicious. As others have noted the menu is not extensive but there is enough to choose from and the wine list was more than adequate. You could be forgiven for thinking you had walked into a bar in Paris We will definitely be back!
I am so excited to find yet another great place in footscray! small french bar is truly a small and cute restaurant where the best seat is at the bar to watch stephan, the chef prepare your meals and desserts in his compact kitchen.only 2 years old, it is open only for dinner and once a month, on a random day when stephan doesn't have to drive the children around or run errands, opens for lunch. thursday nights are $1 oyster nights where tassie oysters are shucked and served; so fresh, it quivers as you touch the flesh.we had steak tartare which was very good but a bit heavy on salt - next time, stephan said, tell him, not too much salt! the piece de resistance was the fillet rosignol, his own creation, a corruption on fillet rossini. it is a perfectly cooked, pink in the middle, melt in the mouth eye fillet topped with a slice of creamy, buttery liver parfait. oohlalalalal!we shared profiteroles stuffed with cream, drenched with chocolate sauce, sprinkled with almond flakes - so sublime!the wine list was small but impressive, we loved the edmund thery sparkling, the french merlot and the peppery pinot noir. and to top the good food and wine - a very friendly staff!
