Restaurant bewertenWe started with the 'pane fritto, anchovy'—a delicious anchovy spread on crusty bread. It was packed with flavor; I could have easily eaten ten of them! Next, we had the 'Caponata,' which I really enjoyed. It's a delightful medley of roasted vegetables, currants, and capers. We also ordered 'Prosciutto Toscana,' which is self-explanatory as a flavorful cured meat served with crustini sticks. The 'Tagliatelle with pork ragu and ricotta' was a standout—it was far from your typical pork ragu and completely exceeded my expectations; I could have happily enjoyed just this dish. The 'John Dory Al Cartoccio' featured fish cooked in paper with zucchini and puree. It was flavorful, and the fish was cooked to perfection. For our side, we chose the 'Pepper Al Forno,' which complemented our main dishes nicely. For dessert, we had panna cotta, which was delightful; it had the perfect wobble, and I loved the tartness of the sauce underneath. We also tried the 'Rhubarb with Zabaglione cream,' offering a lovely blend of sweet, savory, and tart flavors, plus it was beautifully presented. We sampled some wines as well, including my first-ever orange wine, which was refreshing. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Don Peppino's, and I appreciated the restaurant's ambiance, with its natural light and decor.
The food is really fresh and delicious. Don’t forget to order the garlic bread! The service is fantastic as well. It’s a great place to visit late at night.
I can only speak about our experience. After climbing a few flights of stairs, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table by our host, Sam. He was fantastic, taking the time to explain nearly every item on the menu before giving us a few moments to decide what to order. Don Peppino's is designed for sharing, so don’t expect large servings of pasta—there are only two types on the menu! Sam assisted us with our choices, and we ended up trying some dishes we might have otherwise skipped. We were delighted with our selections; the kids enjoyed the Pane Fritto Anchovy and Tonnarelli, while the lamb rump was a hit with everyone—cooked to perfection, succulent, and tender. The roast potatoes were also exceptional, crispy and delicious. However, the main reason I’m writing this review and giving the venue a five-star rating is because of the outstanding service we received from Sam and Ava. Sam truly engaged with our kids, which they loved. He took time to entertain them even during the busy moments. My daughter ended up drawing pictures of Sam and Ava on the paper he provided, and both kids’ drawings were hung on the mirror behind us. Overall, Sam's friendliness, attentive service, and extensive knowledge really stood out. He truly went above and beyond, enhancing our already wonderful evening. To top it all off, Sam surprised me with a mandarin cup topped with a candle. Suddenly, the lights dimmed, the music stopped, and everyone in the restaurant, including other guests, sang happy birthday to me. It was a touching moment that I’ll never forget. In summary, we had a fantastic experience with delicious food and exceptional service. It was truly a memorable night. I highly recommend this restaurant!
