Restaurant bewertenI had a delicious sliced brisket sandwich that had a nice bark on the sides. The sauce was thin and unremarkable, but it was okay because the flavor of the meat shined through. However, I was disappointed with the side order of potato salad, which was essentially a bowl of cold mashed potatoes with only a few chunks of potatoes. I wouldn't order it again. But I would definitely recommend the brisket sandwich.
This restaurant offers a disappointing BBQ experience. The brisket and pork lacked smoke flavor and the bark was thin. It is unclear if the meat is smoked or oven baked. The sauce was the highlight, adding some much-needed flavor to the otherwise bland BBQ. The chili beans were a standout, but again lacked smoky taste. The coleslaw had a unique twist with canned pineapple chunks but was overly wet. Overall, the BBQ was uninspiring and did not stand out in El Paso's BBQ scene. While the staff was friendly and the portion sizes were good, the lack of quality outweighs these positives. If you are not experienced with BBQ or have never tasted good BBQ, you may enjoy it. However, those with a discerning palate should consider trying Desert Oak instead, which is considered one of the best BBQ spots in town.
I bought 11 freshly made cakes from this place. They were a hit with my friends and colleagues.
Had a very good sliced brisket sandwich with bark on sides. Sauce thin and unremarkable which was ok because the meat flavor came thru. Disappointing was side order of potato salad which was basically a bowl of cold mashed potatoes with only a few soft chunks of potatoes. Would not order this again. Brisket sandwich absolutely.
Bland. If you love bbq, especially if you bbq at hone with any skill, you will be disappointed. We ordered the brisket and pork by the pound. Neither had much smoke flavor, rub flavor etc. Not sure if they smoke to start and oven bake the rest but if it is smoked it didnt add any flavor. Bark was thin. Coukd really tell if a smoke ring was there. The sauce is good. Not sweet or real spicy. A good add on for bland bbq. The chili beans were good. Better than the bbq although again, no smoke flavor. Cole slaw uses canned pineapple chunks which i guess is different but was very wet from to much milk/cream, etc. Overall, very basic uninspiring bbq to be had here. The entire bbq scene in El Paso isnt much to speak of and Johnny's does nothing to improve it. People are friendly, portion size is good. Neither make up for the quality. If you dont bbq at home or have never had good bbq you might like it. Otherwise, skip it. Try Desert Oak instead which might be the best in town but is way across town.
