We enjoyed a wonderful evening meal at the end of a hard day of skiing fresh powder, what could be better? Faultless service and great food. I had the menu which included a vast bowl of Garbure, the local soup (mainly vegetables but with a few nuggets of delicious duck meat). Others went a la carte and chose well prepared Margret de Canard and Entrecote steak etc. It turns out that the place has a few hotel rooms. We liked it so much that I think that we might stay there next time. It also has the advantage of being ski in ski out.
No doubt this is the best restaurant in Gourettes which unfortunately does not have much competition as much of it are pizza and crepe shops. On the other hand, this hotel/restaurant serve good Bearnaise cousine starred by their signature Garbure soup/stew with a duck leg. Crepes and omelettes with a side of fresh greens are excellent. Salads supplemented with meats are excellent and abundant with extremely fresh greens. The wine and beer selection is good and the service too and multilingual. The restaurant at least in Summertime is in the ground floor bar area surrounded by large windows and their pastoral views with the roaming Pyrenean cows and sheep famous for their cheese. The manager and service are multilingual and extremely friendly and efficient.
The total absence of competition means that the waiter can afford to treat clients with complete disdain. My wife made the mistake of moving a chair to sit by some friends (having first waited a good 5 minutes to try to ask the waiter). When he finally did arrive it was only to rudely shout at her (in front of the shocked children) for daring to touch the furniture supposedly for Covid related reasons. He then departed for a further 15 minutes before coming back and shouting some more. It took over 40 minutes just to get served. Had we not had friends there we wouldn’t have waited. Totally inexcusable behaviour from the waiter. The restaurant has the best spot in Gourette so doubtful he cares
We stayed few days at the hotel and of course we tasted the restaurant, great! Place is very romantic and friendly. The service is perfect and the food delicious. We went for fondue bourguignonne, fantastic....and before sleep the Irish coffee so nice....
