Restaurant bewertenI came to this bakery for breakfast with high expectations, as it had 4 stars and decent reviews. Despite the menu stating that all pastries without meat or cheese are vegan, I was told that all pastries had an egg wash on top and therefore were not vegan. The only labeled vegan options were the vegan empanada and vegan breakfast plate. The vegan empanada lacked seasoning and tasted bland with just sweet potatoes and garbanzos. I would rate it 1 out of 10. The vegan breakfast plate was slightly better, but the scramble also lacked seasoning. Despite the menu stating it would come with vegan bacon or sausage, it was served with plantains instead. The service was also poor, making it seem like it was their first day. I will not be returning to this restaurant, even if it was my last option.
The restaurant also serves excellent coffee with a wide variety of options to choose from. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

I had been eager to visit this restaurant for some time. Upon arriving, I found that there was only one vegan option available, the vegan baked empanada. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. It was quite dry, possibly due to not being fresh. The filling consisted of chickpeas, potatoes, and pumpkin, which sounded promising in theory. However, it lacked flavor and would have benefited from some sauce or additional ingredients.
I was hesitant when I visited Ruthys, unsure of the vegan options available. The Empanada was marked as vegan, but nothing else on the menu was. I inquired with the staff, and the owner, Ruthy, came over to explain that they offer a full vegan breakfast, which includes an Italian sausage made with field roast and only egg. Ruthy reassured me that any item without meat or cheese was indeed vegan, including the pasteltos. I tried the vegan Empanada and an apple pastelito, both of which were delicious. Ruthy checked in to see how everything was and we had a conversation about her journey to include more vegan options in her bakery. Her daughter, who is not vegan, taught her how to cook and bake vegan dishes and even suggested adding Garbanzo beans for protein in the vegan Empanadas. My only suggestion would be to offer more variety in vegan empanadas, such as black bean, tofu, and vegetable meat, and to clearly label all vegan-friendly items with a “v” for customer convenience. Additionally, Ruthy is willing to accommodate special requests for vegan cakes and never compromises on the quality of her food. Overall, Ruthy goes above and beyond to cater to vegans and provides a delicious and satisfying dining experience.
