Restaurant bewertenWow what a treat in the country. A friend suggested we try this out and we were so happy we did. We had dinner last night for three and two were gluten and dairy intolerant. We were so pleased they were able to adjust the arugula salad, sea bass and risotto and a special sorbet and they were all very yummy. I had the Tuscan soup and local raised pork chops with pasta side and a wonderful lemon tiramisu. The potions are huge so come hungry. Of special note was that they made a special trip to buy the gluten free beer we like. The views and location are lovely and the owners are so friendly. They will soon have wood fired pizza and yes with gluten free crust as an option. Please keep this a secret but book now.
We found this Winery / restaurant by accident and what a find it was! We had dinner in the restaurant which has a lovely atmosphere and wonderful views. We were given bruschetta to start. My meal was excellent (manicotti) and I ate all of it even though it was a large portion! The strawberry gelato was great too. There is a fairly extensive wine list and many entrees from which to choose. I can't wait to go back!
My husband and I had lunch here on Sunday. The owners were very friendly, the dining room and views are lovely and our lunch was delicious. My husband had the soup, we shared a salad and then we each ordered the mixed grill. The portions are huge - we could easily have shared the entree and it would have been plenty, especially for lunch. However Tom brought take out containers for the leftovers before we even had a chance to ask. They might want to consider having a lunch menu with smaller portions. We are looking forward to a return visit!
A year ago we ventured in for lunch at this restaurant situated in the beautiful hills of Northumberland. It had just opened our last visit and while the food was good the staff and operation were undergoing growing pains. What a difference a year can make. Our hostess, Patricia, pleasant, friendly, knowledgable, able to suggest items on and off the menu. Knowing the portions were large she suggested sharing one antipasta item .... when does that happen in a restaurant. Great experience in a pastoral setting with vistas that seemed to stretch forever. If there were some Italian cypress trees lining the driveway you could imagine yourself in Tuscany surrounded by the vineyards which were just starting to bud the date of our visit. Not cheap but good value and the food was excellent.
You know how you drive through the dark, snow dusted hills of rural Ontario to a light on a hill in November, just hoping the place is even open? Forget about good food! Any food will do! No? Well, we expected an equally bleak meal: wrong. A lemon tree and bushes of rosemary in huge planters greeted us just inside the door. The dinning room is a converted barn, seemingly designed and finished by the local pick-up truck driving contractor, who also builds chicken coops and renovates the Legion hall. But it was cozy, warm and bright on a cold night. It was impeccably clean too.The food was fresh and healthy and wholesome Italian cuisine. A big caprese salad for the family to share with fresh, crusty bread. People ordered fish, risotto and veal scallopini. The pasta was homemade and perfectly cooked. All great! We even managed to get an unlabeled bottle of the first run of wine produced from the first batch of grapes this fall. We specifically asked for it and enjoyed it! It smelled of grape must (leftover skins) fresh from the presses and was like a thick and heavy Cab-Sav - but the grapes were merely described to us a "cold weather hybrid" by the owner/chef, who served us. Even the coffee at the end was a beautiful, dark, rich cocoa-like brew from a large espresso machine on the bar. Like some other reviewers, we found the staff un-knowledgable about wine and food - but very polite and pleasant. "Work in progress" :)I give this 5 stars for the combination of good food, well prepared with panache in an unexpected place!
