Restaurant bewertenIt's hard to believe it's been 21 years since the Cumbrian Arms opened its doors. Robert Pam, Richard Kay, and Harry Rose have seen a lot of changes since then. I recently visited in March and had the pleasure of meeting the new owner. The place still looks fantastic with some wonderful updates, making it the perfect spot for a fun night out. Wishing them all the best for the future.
My first visit to this local pub since moving to Cochrane was a complete disappointment. The food did not resemble anything on the menu and was so spicy and full of curry that it was inedible. The service was also not up to par, as we waited over 45 minutes for our dishes and were surprised to find out that cash was the only form of payment accepted. Despite the lack of customers and people not eating, we decided to give it a chance but unfortunately, we will not be returning and will be warning others about our negative experience. It seems like it may be more of a bar than a restaurant.
Within walking distance of our motel, we breezed on over after a long ride on the Trans-Canada highway. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of Rickard's and two plates of tasty nachos. The waiter and waitress were very friendly and fun to talk to. Recommended!
Stopped in for a beer and a bite, bar tender was a nice guy, pub was full of people I think who new each other. Had a few beers and Nachos, the nachos were a single layer of chips with cheese and peppers and onion, prepared by the bar tender.
This is a pub a traditional, old fashioned, beer, ale, and working people pub. You can tell by the decor and the accents of the people. You can still hear the Scottish brough, the Irish lilt and the English accents over the beers. The bartenders know you by name, the jokes are shared with everyone, darts are fun, musicians on certain nights, and games on others and it has excellent pub food, and yes just like in the old UK, you can bring you kid in but you have to sit along the wall then due to ALCB regulations if you do. The beers they serve are excellent to engaging (new to me! Your neighbours are so glad to have a place to meet up with you when your home is a mess but your pub doors are always open. And for those older folk or hard of hearing people great place to meet up: You can actually hear each other talking because they don't blare their music. Tip the bar keep they are more than deserving!!
