Restaurant bewertenVery disappointing experience today. I ordered the grilled peach salad and added pulled chicken. I ordered the salad with bleu cheese instead of goat cheese. I also asked for the balsamic vinagrette to be served on the side. The salad arrived with canned peaches on the salad that were not even grilled and no dressing on the side. I asked the waitress for the salad dressing. I also pointed out that the peaches were not grilled, she offered to bring some that were but I declined as I expected the peaches on the salad would be fresh as peaches are in season. I started to eat the salad which I had to put the chicken on myself. The salad was drenched in the balsamic salad dressing. I barely ate the salad. When I received my check the order that the waitress entered stated pulled chicken on the side not the dressing on the side. I have always been a fan of Canale"s. I grew up in Oswego and it was always a family favorite. Apparently I should have stayed with the Italian offerings.
If you're hungry and your party is small, this is NOT the place to go. The service is terrible. Our waitress ignored us so she could serve a large group (bigger tip) and they got their food long before our party of four. Had to flag down the waitress to get water after sitting there for 15 minutes. A young lady, probably high school age, kept walking by us with a water pitcher, never asking if we wanted any. After 35 minutes and again flagging a waitress, our order was taken. All in all, by the time we got our food, it was almost two hours later, while large party was leaving as we got ours. Food was so-so, nothing to write home about. The young lady came to clean our table after she was flagged down. She never smiled or said a word. Very unfriendly, and we didn't complain at all. This was a Friday night at the outside seating. I get why it wasn't busy. The service is so slow and it shouldn't take forever to place an order.
The house made balsamic vinaigrette was a colorless, flavorless oil with one tiny spot of light brown liquid at the bottom of the bowl. I 'm assuming that may have been a few drops of balsamic vinegar. The Cajun seasoned chicken in the black and bleu pasta dish was just bland chunks of chicken. The sauce was spicy, but definitely not Cajun in any way (having lived in Louisiana for years, I can say that with confidence). The breaded Calamari was good, as was the bread. The Manicotti was good but nothing fantastic. Our server was good at her job and polite. She wasn 't checking on us often but I suspect that because they have a system where multiple staff are supposed to be circulating and checking tables for beverages, etc. Overall, I would rate the restaurant and the food average. If you 've never had really good Italian food or really good food in general, it probably would seem decent. Much of the staff seemed annoyed at being told to do their jobs by senior staff, so that might have been part of the issues. The general impression I got was the restaurant personnel on the whole seem to think it 's an upscale or fine dining establishment and it 's not. It 's a bit better than a mom and pop restaurant with somewhat upscale prices. For about $84.00 I wouldn 't repeat the experience. This restaurant definitely had better food, better portions and better prices over 20 years ago the last time I ate there prior to today.
Food was great! However the restaurant is 15 years past needing an update. Also there was a lot of flies inside.
Rehearsal and welcome dinner for my daughter’s wedding was beyond amazing! Thank you to Nick and Sarah and all staff! We had so much fun and the food and service was impeccable! Canale’s you’re the best!
