Los Portales Mexican Grill Chino

I ordered a milanesa torta to go and bought a michelada at the bar while I waited. I was disappointed with both. Even though they seem to have bottled beer, my michelada was watered down. It had no flavor. The torta was also lacking taste. I think it might have had one slice of avocado and one slice of tomato and a leaf of lettuce. I don't believe it had any cheese, and my jalapeño was placed to the side. I was just disappointed. The place looks really nice and elegant for a Mexican restaurant, but that would be what I rated high. The service lacked attention to their patrons. It was my first time here because I was told the food was good. Although they did say their Montclair location has better service and food.

Food is authentic. Rice and beans are delicious. The service is friendly. My favorite is the chicken tortilla soup! Hits the spot especially when I’m not feeling well!

Value, quality and service. Great food, very consistent all the time. Patron of the Montclair location since 2005, and Chino since it opened.

The food was decent, but if you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, this isn't the right spot. It's more of an American-Mexican fusion. For instance, I ordered an asada taco, expecting it to come with onions and cilantro, but instead, it had pico de gallo and guacamole. The tortilla was also a bit soggy. On a positive note, the service was very good.
