Restaurant bewertenBest Soul Food in Charleston, hands down! You can taste the homemade love in every bite. Parking is a bit tricky..only two-ish stalls in the front. There is plenty of street parking in the area, but be sure to read the signs for permits, etc. We went for lunch and it was packed on a Tuesday. Lots of people ordered ahead and arrived to pick it up. We walked in and were greeted with fast, friendly service. It only took about 15 minutes to get the food, and we sat at the tables outside on a beautiful day. SO. GOOD. This is a can?t-miss if you?re visiting or if you?re local. This food will hit the spot.
The shrimp and crab rice was great, except I kept biting into shells. The pork chop plate is good. I think the pork chop could've been more tender, but the flavor and gravy were good. Collard greens are almost always better made fresh at home, but these were ok. The Mac and cheese was hard, greasy, and not enough cheese. That being said, it was still better than most places you find mac and cheese. The food is not nasty, but its not the best. I would eat here again, I just know what to order next time.
The best soul food hands down! I've tried many in Charleston, but the food keeps me coming back here. The wings and shrimp and crab meat over rice was amazing. I can't wait to visit when the renovations are complete. I visit my grown children here every three months and you're my first stop! Thank you.
If you go to a place and you know that it is good without tasting the food. The smell of people there just goes together. Then my food comes out. Delicious whatever you did then. My hat's gone. Just come and enjoy it.
Finally stopped and tried them after they were online for over a year today. With a friend who grew up, eat many of the same types of food, so we felt as if we had to try a lot of different things today. We started with Gizzards. In any case, had a good season (a little chewing, but normal). Then we both tried the shrimp and crab rice with fried shark as our duck, which was as good as everyone made it out. He went with Lima beans and I went with collar. He said the Lima beans were delicious, but the portion wasn't that big. I have a huge container with collar and they were as soft and delicate as possible. We both have a piece of sweet corn bread and all salty parts to compensate. Actually, everything we had was good. We definitely didn't need so much food and took more than half back home for remnants, but we had them to try. Our server was great. She was super busy, so don't go in. This is a take your time and enjoy the company and food type of place. I definitely come back. Can wait to try the rest of the menu.
