Rotisserie Vauban - Besançon

This restaurant is well worth the visit. Food locally sourced, was absolutely delicious. I will definitely go back in my next visit.

A visit to Vauban's Citadel led us to this rotisserie one evening during a short visit to Besancon. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth the effort of getting there! The formula is unusual but highly effective as the proprietor takes a personal interest, and the focus is refreshingly clear in terms of menu and expertise rotisserie. And, gosh, does it work the grilled dishes are very special: the belly pork we had was outstanding; and the side dishes, lentils in our case, were very good indeed. The house wines are well chosen too: they complement the menu nicely. In sum, a very enjoyable surprise strongly recommended

We stopped at Rotisserie Vauban for lunch as a stopover between Paris and Basel. This is a lovely little restaurant located on a small street leading into the old town, near the stairs leading up to the fortress. There is public parking just a block away. The restaurant is small but welcoming. Our family of 6 (kids 7-13) really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The chicken was awesome, as was the lamb shank. The highlight of the meal was the lentils stewed with white wine and (if I understood correctly) cheese. Amazing, scooped up with the wonderful bread. The kids meals were a great value and had a sort of ground chicken cheese cutlet that was good in and of itself. Very good value. Our whole family ate for 75€. Highly recommend!

Who wouldve thought a side dish would be the highlight! But honestly, these lentils are to die for. Had the pork glazed in honey, a half roasted chicken, a salad to share (salad was very big) and some desserts (creme brulee, only average) We were very satisfied, good food, but not amazing, and a bit expensive too! But you will have a good meal here, guarenteed.
