Restaurant bewertenWe were trundling down the autoroute driving south and needed a break so I spontaneously took the next exit and we found ourselves in the sleepy village of Baume les Dames. After a stroll in temperatures in the mid 30's Celsius we hit upon the “Roy Chocolatier” establishment with inviting bistrot chairs out side under sun shades. I walked into the shop/bar and was immediately struck by the highly welcoming air conditioning. The mature lady behind the counter was the epitomy of charm and helpfulness. But was completely confused by my simple request for an iced cold chocolate milk drink. I should have just tried to order a milk shake, but instead, using my advanced skills in the French language, I tried to explain how to make what I wanted. She seemed confused but eventually gave me the impression that she understood and reassured me that she would bring me my drink if I settled down outside on the terrace in the blistering heat. Well, I waited and waited and waited and just as I was on the point of melting completely she emerged proudly with a tray on which was balanced a simple small glass of cold chocolate milk and a separate one with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. I didn't have the heart (nor time) to explain that, no that wasn't what I meant. So I promptly dunked the ice cream in the milk and gulped it down to partly relieve me from the summer heat. On re-entering the property to pay the bill I looked a bit closely to discover a veritable chocolate factory inside with a number of smartly attired chefs doing weird and wonderful things with chocolate sweets etc. As it was I didn't think that it would be a good idea to buy anything chocolately to take with me on my journey south to the Mediterranean given the summer heat. And it was probably just as well from the potential strain on my purse. For my exotic beverage I was charged a princely fee of 5,00 Euro. Ouch. Better to move on... and fast!
Family meal for 25 people: very good service, from aperitif to dessert, especially the bite sauce. A recommendation
