Restaurant bewertenOverview: A beautiful lively Café on the beautiful historical Lydiard Street, with a sweet-and floral experience. Oat Mocha: It is nice and sweet, with a hint of caramel and vanilla flavour. Only had a slight bitterness, although if you like your coffee sweet, I would recommend this Mocha, Although if you prefer the taste of coffee, a latte is probably the way to go. Pear Risotto: You definitley need a big appetite for this colourful dish. It was served at a nice hot temperature, perfect for Ballarat weather, the aroma of the dish reminded me of walking through a flower garden, but you also taste the flower garden as well, which is a weird thing to say but if you try it you will know. This dish was very sweet, and could only recommend this dish to sweet tooths and people who really love floral flavours. The pears and rice were soft in texture, and with the addition of the almonds gave it a slight crunch. The last few bites of the dish was a challenge, as the more you eat it the sweeter it gets. Oh and its gluten free so yay for all the coeliacs out there. If the dish was made with a lighter milk it could lower the sweetness, perhaps a coconut milk, which could also make it vegan! A dish worth the try if you like sweet floral flavours, but I would avoid it if your not a sweet tooth. 7/10 Vibe/environment: The Lane has a beautiful modern alfresco area with greenery and a lively atmosphere. 9/10 Service: Service was nothing too special, barely got checked up on if everything was okay, or if I needed anything else. 7/10 Dined: 14/06/2023
The kitchen was closed when we came here (Saturday afternoon) so we just decided to have a couple of drinks. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere and outdoor seating were nice, great spot to relax and enjoy good company.
On a cold wet Sunday morning, we drove into Ballarat looking for a cafe/coffee finding one attached to The George which looked modernized in what we called open apartment-style decor the locals rise early seeing there were a few already in noisy for a Sunday morn? We ordered our brekkie 's coffee first that 's where our total disappointment started that full flavor coffee we were expecting was flat dishwater I returned to the counter for a replacement even that one tasted Yes stronger more like he added an extra shot to the same water seriously if this is what the local 's think is acceptable they should go to the city more often? needless to say, we did not pay for the coffee 's I would go as far as to say Macca 's make betta coffees!!! food average, sack the coffee maker he 's no barista? we did not stay the hotel therefore we can not comment on that! our comment is solely for the cafe, we will not be returning anytime soon we wish the locals luck in panning for a betta coffee!!!
Very happy with the two breakfasts we had in this Cafe. We asked for my husband's second cup of coffee to be a bit hotter and it did come back hotter which is good because some other places we have been to you ask for the coffee to be hotter and it comes back the same heat. Hot Chocolate was nice and I love the small biscuits they put with your drinks
We had lunch at the Lane. Plenty of choices on the menu. I had the Crispy Skin Barramundi. It was absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient.
