Old word charm and lovely chat with owner. Ice cold beer friendly service. Would come back for dinner.
D into the botttle shop to get drinks to take to the ayr drive-in fast friendly service with a smile.
Arriving by car in Ayr, Queensland, on a Tuesday we found only a couple of dining options operating and after checking the menus in the afternoon, decided the newly re-opened, air conditioned Dining Room at the Ayr Hotel, would be the venue for our evening meal. Expectations were not high but we were very pleasantly surprised both by the renovated Dining Room, crisp linen table cloths and folded fabric napkins and comfortable furnishings. The food was even better. One meal of fresh Coral Trout was served with a separate Whisky and Prawn cream sauce, which was superbly flavoured with whole Bay Prawns lurking in the lovely sauce. The Second meal was a tender Prime Rib Fillet, cooked medium, as ordered. Both meals were served with fresh hand cut vegetables and chips, a welcome change to the frozen varieties encountered in other establishments in this price range $20-$30). Wine and drink service was timely and served with a smile. The owner visited our table to check that everything was to our liking and we found out that the Ayr Hotel is currently being revitalised back to it's former glory, after being leased for many years as a Backpackers. As far as the Dining Room goes this has been achieved, with old world charm and fine standard of food. Highly recommended to other travellers.
Lovely people, nice food, centric location, however takes time to wait for the food. Still, probably best value in town.
