If you've ever wondered what it would be like to have lunch in a French farmhouse, this is the place for you. The best kind of home cooking is served with warmth and flair, surrounded by the shelves of enticing second-hand books also on sale.All the food was super-fresh and locally sourced. We were served asparagus soup with dark rustic bread, followed by a dish of slow-cooked port shoulder in a creamy sauce with morelle mushrooms. The vegetables were especially good: new season's potatoes, roasted to a nutty golden brown; a gratin of chard; Beluga lentils and spelt.For dessert there were fresh strawberries served with what can only be described as home-made condensed milk: unpasteurised local milk, boiled with sugar to create a sweet,gooey cream. This is a totally original place, a meal not to be forgotten. It's also excellent value: around a hundred euros for four people to have three courses, plus drinks and coffee.Reserve ahead, as the opening hours - like the place itself - are idiosyncratic.

In een tijd waar in Frankrijk het ene na het andere restaurant sluit, is er in Avallon een nieuw restaurant bijgekomen. Een voormalige advocate heeft haar leven omgegooid. In een gezellige huiskamerambiance staat een grote table d'hôtes waaraan je zeer zorgvuldig gemaakt eten krijgt voorgeschoteld. Verse producten, veelal bio en vanuit de directe omgeving. Een drie gangenmenu voor 15 euro. En zaterdagochtend een uitgebreide brunch voor 8 euro, koffie, thee inbegrepen. Das echt geen geld voor wat je hiervoor krijgt. Een aanrader!
