It was a wonderful way to begin a stroll. However, the pay-and-display machine didn't accept contactless payments.
In October 2019, I found direct parking conveniently located near the start of the Tissington Trail, right in the center of Ashbourne, just through the tunnel. There’s a free public restroom and a small café with seating options, as well as a bicycle rental service and snacks available. The parking facilities here are better than those in the city center, costing £4 for 4 hours. During the busy summer months, the nearby overflow parking lot can be quite useful, although it does close fairly early. The next parking area along the route is at Thorpe Junction, which is about 2.25 miles away, but be aware that it doesn’t have any facilities.
This is a great spot to begin the trail to Tissington and then on to Parsley Hay. The route features a gentle uphill climb, making the return journey downhill.
Use your navigation to find the location. The ticket machine accepts both cash and cards, and a full day pass is only £4.75. There's a free toilet block and bike rentals available. After enjoying the Tissington Trail, it's easy to pass through the tunnel and arrive in Ashbourne, where you can find a cafe or pub to eat. The £4.75 fee is definitely worth it! We had a wonderful walk and then went to the George and Dragon pub (which is dog-friendly) for a fantastic post-walk meal.
