Restaurant bewertenMy mother and I are very disappointed in the cake we purchased for my dad for Father’s Day. This company raised its prices but the quality has gone down. We ordered a Black Forest Cherry cake for my dad. What we got was cake with whipped cream cherries and buttercream frosting. None of it tasted like Black Forest Cherry cake. In fact, I wound up eating a glob of butter that was not mixed through in the frosting. This cake was not worth $46
We chose Oak Mill Bakery for our wedding and rehearsal cakes based on the recommendation of my husband's sister who used them 10 years ago. We were so happy with our choice. Bill was our main contact and was very helpful and patient as we spent over an hour tasting the many delicious options and discussing prices during our cake tasting. Both the rehearsal and wedding cake turned out even better than we hoped, and were absolutely delicious!
Not fit to sell Birthday Cakes. The lady at the counter had a big scorn on her face. Was so lazy that did not move from her position and wanted me to describe the cake to tell me what its ingredients were. She would be fired in most of the places I know, except at funeral parlours.
We worked with Oak Mill Bakery for our wedding cake, and from start to finish, it was a great experience! For our original tasting, we met with Basia at their Arlington Heights location in March 2020. The appointment was fun and productive—we spent our time viewing their look-book of designs, discussing photos we brought in as examples of our vision, and, of course, tasting several combinations of cake and frosting. They kindly served us water and tea alongside our samples. At the end, we elected to go with a 3-tiered vanilla cake with vanilla custard filling and cascading flowers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we pushed our event all the way to 2022, which Basia was able to accommodate. The day of our wedding, the cake looked absolutely beautiful! I was in awe when I saw it for the first time walking into our reception hall, and I had to take a moment before cake cutting simply to admire it! It was delicious, and we received many compliments from our guests following the event. We’ve visited Oak Mill on separate occasions simply to try their other desserts. Likewise, everything we’ve purchased—small cakes, tarts, cookies, and other confections—are sweet, tasty, and fresh. We recommend Oak Mill for your wedding cake and other sweet treat needs!
I wasn’t going to write a review, but i have quite a lot to say about Oak Mill Bakery. To start, I came in about a month ago inquiring about a two tier cake (8in bottom, 6in top). It was for a corporate party. I spoke with Bill that day about color, decor, filling etc. He constantly kept cutting me off to let me know everything i wanted was an upcharge. For example, I wanted two different flavor cakes in the layers (I wanted vanilla in the top layer and chocolate on bottom) and before I could finish he immediately told me it would be a $50 upcharge for that. I understand him being upfront, but to me it seemed like they just added a charge for everything and at one point it got to be so annoying i left. By the time I was finished with all of my requests the cake was over $500. I left that day and went down the street to Central Continental Bakery which is amazing and they were able to accommodate me without rushing being rude and did everything I asked for under $200. (They didnt charge me for two flavors of cake either) Here is where it gets good. About two months ago, I ordered a happy anniversary cake from Oak Mill. (Before the corporate cake mess) Keep in mind this was a 6in round cake with simple writing on the top. I paid $80 for it.. and it could barely feed 4 people. I ordered it for pickup in June, but got very busy with work and couldn’t pickup for about 4 days. Ironically enough, its my sisters birthday today and I thought it would be an easy idea to use the anniversary cake and ask them to simply rewrite on it “Happy Birthday” for when I pickup. Immediately on the phone with Bill he says its a 2 dollar 7 cent upcharge. I mean seriously… either way I agreed and went to pickup the cake. When I got there, he was nowhere to be found. Another lady (very rude attitude) checked me out and didn’t mention the two dollars. 20 minutes after I left I get a condescending voicemail from him saying I need to come back and pay for the $2. I mean seriously? I will never ever order a cake from here again, and I will make sure to tell my friends and family to avoid this place. If you want a good cake with people that are easy to work with and have average rates please go to Central Continental Bakery in downtown Mount Prospect and AVOID OAK MILL AT ALL COSTS !!!
