A Transformation Used to go here years ago for a cheap Saturday breakfast; it was a borderline dive bar then. Stopped in last Saturday; what a change remodeled, painted, clean and neat as a pin. The bartender was an enjoyment; the cook was 'everybody 's grandmother ' and VERY GOOD. Had the special, which was an honest to goodness, old fashion chicken fried steak, the likes of which haven 't been in Albany restaurants for decades. Previously had to go to the Sweet Home VFW or the Busy Bee Café in Springfield if we wanted something other than a 'food service ' product; however well it was disguised/gilded still dog food w/gravy. If you haven 't been here for awhile, go back, this place is trying hard to be THE REAL DEAL.
Good bar food, excellent drinks and a clean, but eclectic atmosphere can be found at this neighborhood tavern. I've been twice for lunch and the place was empty. The bartenderess was the only other soul in the joint, and cooked us our meals. Service was fast and friendly. I imagine the place gets jumpier after work hours and on weekends.
Beyond having great stiff drinks at cheap prices they've added fish tacos to the menu, let me tell you they are the bomb. Coming from a beach city in California originally I know my fish tacos and these are top notch. Do yourself a favor and order a couple next time , you're in you won't regret it.
My friend and I went in there this evening Saturday the 29th. We get that it can get busy due to us both working in the restaurant industry. However the bartender took it to a whole new level, she did not pay attention to the fact we were there, except for when she nudged me out of her way (which I don't think I really was). To my knowledge we were the only ones waiting at the bar at least for drinks, and we waited for around 20 min before we literally gave up and walked out after not even a glance in our direction. Will definitely never go back here
