El Gato Taqueria - Akron

AMAZING. I often command El Gato on my lunch break, and I'm never upset. The food is fresh and has a clean refreshing taste. There are also so many options!! If you eat Chipotle often, I definitely recommend giving this place an attempt. It has a new unique taste that I think that people who eat Mexican can appreciate a lot. Service is ALWAYS fast and friendly. Today I saw a line going out the door really showing how successful it is.

Went in for lunch with a group of coworkers, I believe the week after the soft opening. Arrived at about 11:30, just before the lunch rush. I ordered a salad with steak and a bottle of water, total came out to 10.50 tax. Everyone else either got a bowl or the street tacos. Salad was pretty good but nothing outstanding, comparably to a Chipotle salad. Produce was fresh, meat was well-cooked to a medium rare and seasoned nicely. Portion of meat and beans was a bit small so I wasn't exactly stuffed, making the meal a poor value. Others complained that their portions were small as well, not much meat and not very filling. What was really strange is that on a salad you have to pay $3 extra for meat, when a bowl and a salad are both priced at $7 and are essentially the same thing, except sub the romaine lettuce for rice. Street tacos looked very appetizing, wish I ordered one, but again there were complaints about the value. Maybe a 3 for 5 deal? Unfortunately no one got a burrito so I couldn't see how big they are. We were seated by the door and the opening/closing of the door brought in a lot of cold air where we were sitting and where the line was. Perhaps an air curtain or door heater would help. Staff was friendly. Overall it's worth checking out if you work in the downtown area. Food was tasty, value was questionable.

I really enjoyed the options. The bowl was a great option for lunch to try a little of everything. The Carnitas were good, but I have to get the man to clarify how Carnitas his favorite dinner is It's in downtown and easy for me to go from work. Plan to go this Taco Tuesday place! Excellent carne asada street tacos. Wife and son had burritos, but said they liked Chipotle's better. Disco fries were very good too. Interesting decor with the Mexican wrestling (lucha libre) theme.

Great local Burrito restaurant with an exceptional, clean atmosphere. It should be without saying that the food is good, but here we are. Not a huge trekkie fan, but with the classic 60s series game on their TV monitors adds a unique flair. I highly recommended this place.
