Worried about catching COVID then avoid The Portly Piper. We of us) sat at a table overlooking the entrance and watched dozens of people pour into the place with no contact name taken nor was their ID checked. It was a hit and...miss effort! I mentioned all of this to owner who said he would talk to his staff. Wake-Up idiot!! This virus has been with us for almost years, get with the program or loose your liquor license. We spoke with our server who was mortified. I suspect she will look for another job. It's places like this one that are responsible for all bars/restaurants being shuttered again! To repeat, avoid this place like the plague...unless you want it!!

The above sandwiches are absolutely great! As an ex-Torontonian, when I visit family in Ajax, I head immediately for the Portly Piper for lunch! Great bar, friendly bar tenders and plenty of televisions to watch highlights of the Leafs previous outings!

The Portly Piper in Ajax is definitely not your typical pub. In addition to all the drinks, bar snacks, and pub fare, they offer some really good food with generous portions at decent prices. I recently joined some friends for an evening out and we...were more than satisfied. We were actually quite stuffed! Our entree choices included Lobster Pasta, Lamb Chops, Chicken, and more! Of course, we started with several rounds of appetizers, including a deep fried platter, a seafood platter, nachos, and more. The Lemon Pepper wings were a standout to me! They were large, crispy, and very flavourful! They're also half price on Monday evenings! Of course, we took advantage of their extensive drink menu with an assortment of cocktails and shots! Our server did an amazing job of keeping up with us! It was a good evening! If you haven't been here, check them out! They're located on Bayly Street in Ajax, between Westney and Harwood. They also have another location in Oshawa.

The wings are always good and large The daily specials are a good deal excellent value for the dollar.

I have never eaten wings before that were so tasteless, so dry and pretty much sliced the inside of my mouth because the texture was like hard wood splinters. I suspect they had been reheated, at least times, before they ended up on my...doorstep. I had to throw them out. We ordered the beef to be medium rare in our fajitas. It came so overdone and chewy it hurt my teeth to try to eat it. I took the beef out of the fajitas and threw them out as well. Couldn’t chew it. We received the food ‘cold’ minutes after being notified it was on its way. I live minutes from the restaurant. I was very disappointed because this was my first time really eating Portly Piper food and a number of friends had said it was so good. But, honestly, it was extremely disappointing. All proteins tasted like they had been reheated, over cooked and recycled. I know it is difficult these days with COVID. I truly hope this is a one off experience. I won’t be ordering again but will keep my ear out to hear if my friends are still having good experiences. It’s too bad. I was really looking forward to trying out their food.
